God says that I am . . . .

Following Casey Rhine of Landmark Church of Christ’s class at Impact this past week, my eyes were filled with tears and my heart deeply troubled. Staying after to ask him for advice on struggles I’ve experienced in the past several months, he challenged me with the task of forming a list of all that God says that I am, supported by scripture, to defend against ALL the lies that the devil attacks us with. Here’s what I got:

God says that I am…

Fearfully and wonderfully made: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:13-14 NIV

Chosen: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9 NIV

His very own possession: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9 NIV

The salt of the earth: “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.” Matthew 5:13 NLT

The light of the world: “You are the light of the world.” Matthew 5:14 NLT

A city on a hilltop: “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hiddenNo one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:14-16 NLT

Part of the plan:  For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 NLT

Taken care of: “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:7 NLT; “The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.” Psalm 23:1 NLT

A great oak: In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.” Isaiah 61:3 NLT

Made in His image (Imago Dei): “So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27 NLT

Unshakable: He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken.” Psalm 62:6 NLT

Blessed: Yes, God will bless us, and people all over the world will fear him.” Psalm 67:7 NLT

Crowned with love and tender mercies: He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies.” Psalm 103:4 NLT

Beautiful for my own time: “Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11 NLT
White as snow: “Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.” Isaiah 1:18 NLT
His disciple: “Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” Matthew 4:19 NLT
Kept in perfect peace: You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” Isaiah 26:3 NLT
Clay formed by the Potter’s hands: And yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand.” Isaiah 64:8 NLT
Christ’s body: “All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:27 NLT

More precious than the birds of the air and the lilies of the field: “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?“And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?” Matthew 6:25-30 NLT

A worker in His field: “Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” Matthew 9:35-38 NLT

More valuable than a whole flock of sparrows: “So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.” Matthew 10:31 NLT

Always with Jesus: Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20 NLT

Forgiven: “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 NLT; “I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.” Luke 7:47 NLT

Loved: “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 NLT

Gifted eternal life: “And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.” John 3:36 NLT

Led by Him: “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 NLT

The branches of Christ’s vines: “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches . . . .” John 15 NLT

His sheep: “You are my flock, the sheep of my pasture. You are my people, and I am your God. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!” Ezekiel 34:31 NLT

Anointed with the Holy Spirit: “And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.” Acts 2 NLT

Made right in His sight: “Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.” Romans 3:24 NLT

At peace with God: “Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.” Romans 5:1 NLT

Set free from the power of sin: “For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.” Romans 6:7 NLT

Inseparable from His love: What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us. Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:31-39 NLT

Saved: “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 NLT

A living and holy sacrifice unto Him: And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.” Romans 12:1 NLT

A temple of the Holy Spirit bought with a high price: Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT

Known completely by God: “Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.” 1 Corinthians 13:12 NLT

His given new life: “Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life.” 1 Corinthians 15:22 NLT

Given His mercy and comfort: “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.” 2 Corinthians 1:3 NLT

A Christ-like fragrance rising up to Him: “Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing.” 2 Corinthians 2:15 NLT

Weak but strong: “That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:10 NLT

One in Jesus Christ: “There is no longer Jew or Gentile,[o] slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28 NLT

Now, as we were compiling this list, I came to the realization that none of these statements are solely about us. Rather they reflect God’s character and His immense love for us! Our confidence is in Him alone. He has given us our worth, our dignity, and all that we are, and I pray you never forget all that God says you are. All my love, Lauren Grace
